DESCRIPTION

FUMARIC ACID FCC, NF is a white or nearly white crystalline powder or granules. FUMARIC ACID is an organic acid with a strongly acidic taste.

FUMARIC ACID, FCC, NF is odorless and is non-hygroscopic.  One gram is soluble in about 159 ml of water at 25 ºC and one gram is soluble in about 42 ml of water at 100ºC. In 95% ethanol, one gram is soluble in about 17.4 g at 30ºC. Fumaric Acid sublimes at 200ºC and melts at 287ºC (closed capillary, rapid heating).

FUMARIC ACID FCC< NF is produced to meet the specifications of The Food Chemicals Codex III and the National Formulary XVII. Test methods are listed in FCC III and NF XVII.

Assay: Not less than 99.5% and not more than 100.5% of C4H4O4, calculated on the anhydrous basis.
Identification: A solution responds to the test for fumarate.
Water: Not more than 0.5%.
Arsenic (as As): Not more than 3 parts per million.
Heavy Metals (as Pb): Not more than 10 parts per million
Maleic Acid: Not more than 0.10%.
Residue on Ignition: Not more than 0.10%.

FUMARIC ACID, FCC, NF is available in two Sieve Sizes:

Fine Granular: Max. 10% on No. 20 U.S. Standard Sieve. Max. 10% through No. 100 U.S. Standard Sieve.

Powder: Max. 5% on No. 80 U.S. Standard Sieve.
